From Claude Ritman, the previous Excutive Director of Coler-Goldwater Hospital:
|
“Angelica has spent an enormous amount of time here, organized many events and become close friends with our patients and residents, making a tremendous difference in their quality of life. We couldn’t be happier. These are a group of volunteers who say what they mean and do it.”
Claude Ritman, from Coler-Goldwater's From the Heart magazine, Spring/Summer 2007
“Through the formation of Patient Committees, Angelica has developed a unique approach to enhancing quality of life at Coler-Goldwater. These patient-led committees are a new idea for Coler-Goldwater Hospital, and have been instrumental in driving Angelica’s programming, while at the same time building stronger relationships within the resident community. We believe that this patient-guided approach will foster skills development, increase self-esteem and build sense of community.”
Claude Ritman, from a letter in support of Angelica's application for a Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation grant
| From a Patient Regarding the Hip Hop Program: |
To The Angelica Foundation,
My name is Ramon, and I am a 36-year-old Hispanic male who is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a gunshot wound I suffered about 14 years ago. I am the first member of the Hip Hop program who along with Shane Howze, recreation therapist who coordinates the Hip Hop Session, helped to develop and promote the program. The donation of the digital music equipment has helped me a great deal in recording my hip hop lyrics. Hip Hop is one of my greatest loves in life and because of your donations I am able to create my very own musical CDs that I have wanted to do for years now. I thank you again for your very generous donation and invite you to visit the program at any time.
Thank you,
Ramon

From Patients & Residents Who Attended the Sweetheart Ball:
|
“I’ve never had so much fun! I felt so good when I was chosen to be the Queen – I have never won anything before.”
Migdalia
“It was like a surrealist movie where the staff members were transformed because they participated and we (the patients and residents) saw another side of them.”
Fernando
Night of Stars at the SWEETHEART BALL
With Hearts of Roses and Chocolates
By Lisa
Glorious sights at the Ball in Goldwater Auditorium
Dazzled in the vastness of ANGELICA’S LOVE
Hearts celebrated Valentine to the music of Harmony
Blissful angels came along with gifts
With empowering love
Illuminating faces of patients and residents
Who came to the party DRESSED TO IMPRESS
And said it was AWESOME LOVE INDEED
So here’s to ANGELICA, the proud sponsors
Here’s to Therapeutic Recreation Department
To Mr. Ron Becker the Magical Master of Ceremonies
To The Planning Committee of zealous patients
To all the great patients and residents, who rocked the party
Like true stars!

From Several Patients Following a Visit to the Metropolitan Museum:
|
“I have been in the Metropolitan Museum several times. But one of the best visits was when I went with Miss Theresa, Activity Therapist at Coler Hospital, a month ago. Now I am very interested in visiting the museum again to see the retrospective of the work of Francis Bacon in May. I would like to see more museums like MOMA and the Frick Collection.”
Fernando
“I enjoyed the trip to the Metropolitan Museum very much. I was amazed at all the beautiful and interesting paintings. I had never been there before. I would like the chance to visit again to go on a tour. The tour guide we had was informative and made us welcome at the museum. In the future, I would go to the Museum of Modern Art and I would like to see the Rubin Museum that contains Buddhist art and sculpture. Thank you for the experience of visiting the museum.”
Sangyal
“It was fair weather but somewhat cold and brisk as a group of us ventured out to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The visit to the Museum of Arts was quite inspiring. The exhibits we visited were on first floor and the mezzanine section; the European sculpture court, the Arts of Africa and also the Arts of the Americas. Our tour guide was very helpful, she give us guidelines for interpreting painting which were huge in size. She also had each person in the group express their own interpretation on several African Art masks and how we interpret its symbolic meaning, in our lives. e.g., depth, fear and honor.
On our way back to our place of residence, I could not erase the profound effect and the motivation for my own concept of Art, since, in looking and leering form a number of different angles it seem, to break down a number of boundaries and contributed greatly to the infinite conviction that Art is special, in it’s communication of truth and beauty. This is the frame of mind and the values I came away with as I too wish, to obtain by enrolling in a fine Arts student learning school which would enable me, to place my inner most feeling of, Art natural and true, on to any medium.”
